Court System Home » Representing Yourself » Glossaries

This page is the gateway to specialized glossaries developed to help you better understands the terms used in your court case. There are slightly different lists for different cases because, in the legal world, the meaning of words can often change depending on the circumstances.

Important Note:The definitions provided are not statutory definitions. We have only tried to provide non-legalese definitions. Statutes and rules often have a definition section, and any word could be defined in a special was for the purposes of the statute. If you are doing legal research, it is always a good idea to check the definitions section of a statute or rule. Usually these sections come at the end, and are called Definitions.
