The Justice System Needs Oral Language Interpreters

Are you bilingual?
Are you interested in interpreting in the justice system?

If your answers to these questions are "yes" then contact the Language Interpreter Center.

What is the Language Interpreter Center?

The Language Interpreter Center is a collaborative, multi-agency, public-private effort to create a pool of qualified language interpreters for public and private entities statewide. The Alaska Court System is an active supporter of the Language Interpreter Center.

The Language Interpreter Center offers a comprehensive interpreter training program for language interpreters. The first training was conducted in March 2008. Since then, the Language Interpreter Center and the Alaska Court System has offered four intensive training sessions, a variety of ongoing skill-building workshops and lectures on legal process and terminology. The Language Interpreter Center and the Alaska Court System will present training programs in 2010 and 2011. Those completing Language Interpreter Center training programs are eligible to take the Consortium for Language Access in the Courts exam, a national test for court interpretation.
